Downland mAPPS the Abbey for Royal Wedding

We are pleased to announce that Downland Partnership Ltd have been part of the creation of a new and ground-breaking App for iPhone and Android smartphones; a 3D model of Westminster Abbey in preparation for the Royal Wedding. Abbey 3D enables users to take a guided tour in the footsteps of Kate Middleton as she makes her way down the aisle to the altar. All features of the Abbey are seen in super-realistic detail, with "hotspots" of information shedding light on the importance of key areas during the wedding.

The Downland Partnership Ltd has worked at the Abbey for many years, building up an archive of data that has made this project possible. The model was created using Leica laser scanning technology and the latest 3D modelling software. The animation was then completed by Creation Studios Productions Ltd.

This is one of the first times that laser scanning and 3D modelling has been employed for use with mobile devices. The new App will enable thousands of mobile users worldwide to experience the beauty of Westminster Abbey up-close and in remarkable detail.
