Rectified photography is usually used to record building facades where a line survey is inadequate to incorporate all the detail such as subtle changes in materials. For rectified photography to work well the facade needs to contain one or more well defined planes.

The photography is usually taken with a large format camera (5 x 4) and after processing is scanned at high resolution; 1200 or 2000 dots per inch. Photo-control is observed to premarked points with four points per plane normally required.

The rectification process involves identifying the control points on the digital images and defining the limit of each image in order to ensure a seamless mosaic of all of the images and planes involved.

The final stage involves introducing the rectified mosaics into a CAD environment by scaling and positioning the image within a grid and sheet format

Output will always include a CAD based product with the CAD file and associated image files. Hard copies are also usually provided both as paper copies, including in the case of colour images high resolution heavyweight materials and film copies. The film copies are usually provided as black and white images.

Rectified photography provides a cost effective product in many instances.
