For irregular surfaced buildings where the condition of the fabric is a major factor in specifying the survey, orthophotography provides an admirable solution. Photogrammetric surveys allow for all the stone outlines to be shown and structured within the CAD system to allow individual material types to be segregated. Heritage recording extends to virtually anything, including ships and marine structures, murals and monuments, forms of transportation and industrial plants. Rectified photography is a useful method of producing geometrically corrected and mosaiced images. Photography taken for photogrammetric purposes also serves as an archive and to help conservation architects to inspect the fabric of a building without the need for scaffolding.
